Why compare FMC920, FMC125 and FMC130
If you're coming from old 2G or picking your first 4G LTE Cat 1 for your fleet, these three units dominate the queries we get. They share important things: 4G LTE Cat 1 modem with 2G fallback, codec 8/8E/16 (see protocol), management via FOTA Web and compatibility with the Teltonika accessory catalogue.
What changes is the electronic chassis: number of digital inputs, relay outputs, available serial port, Bluetooth and dual SIM support. That difference defines what fits in a delivery van and what a tow truck with external sensors needs.

FMC920: the hardwired entry-level 4G
The FMC920 is the unit we recommend when you need to renew a 2G fleet without overcomplicating things. Three digital inputs are enough for ignition, panic button and one more sensor (door, auxiliary contact). Two outputs for engine cut-off and a buzzer/secondary relay. No RS232, no dual SIM. If what you need is to locate, geofence and read ignition, it's more than enough.
Typical case: urban delivery van, commercial vehicle without tachograph, company car. If you're coming from the FMB920 on 2G, the FMC920 is the 1:1 replacement on 4G.
FMC125: dual SIM, RS485 and demanding environments
The FMC125 adds two things that matter in a medium fleet: dual SIM (failover between operators in areas with patchy coverage) and RS485 on top of RS232. RS485 lets you chain sensors on a bus (LLS temperature probes, capacitive fuel-level sensors with 485 output, industrial RFID readers).
Typical case: regional distribution with routes crossing low-coverage zones, refrigerated vehicles with several probes, installs where the client requires network redundancy.
FMC130: the best-selling advanced reference
The FMC130 is the balance that 60% of installers ask for: 4 digital inputs, 2 outputs, RS232 available for fuel probes or tachograph (digital reading), and an optional CAN-CONTROL if you want to read the vehicle's CAN bus without contacting the manufacturer.
Typical case: mixed fleet where you combine cars, vans and the odd light-heavy unit; installs with temperature and fuel-level sensors; renting with advanced reporting.
Which to order by case
- Location + ignition + engine cut-off only: FMC920. Don't pay for ports you won't use.
- Critical coverage or multi-operator: FMC125 for the dual SIM.
- LLS fuel sensor, temperature probe, tachograph reading: FMC130 with RS232, or FMC125 if you need a 485 bus.
- Native CAN bus reading (RPM, fuel consumption, real odometer): better go with the FMC150 or FMC130 + CAN-CONTROL.

Frequently asked questions
Can I migrate the FMC920 config to the FMC130 without rewriting it?
Yes, the three units share Teltonika's Configurator tool. The .cfg configuration is transferable except for the port-specific parameters the FMC920 doesn't have. For large fleet migrations we handle it via FOTA Web.
Does the FMC125 work with a single SIM if I don't need redundancy?
Yes. Dual SIM is optional. You can run on SIM1 only and leave slot 2 empty. The failover function only activates if you configure a second APN.
Which codec do these units use by default?
Codec 8 Extended by default. Codec 16 if you enable the record generation timestamp. Details on the Codec 8/8E/16 protocols page.
Are they suitable for a private car or only for fleets?
Technically they work, but they're units designed for professional hardwired installation at 12/24 V. For a private vehicle without an installer, the fastest route is the FMC003 via OBD.
Is there a power consumption difference between the three?
In normal mode, all three sit in the 30–60 mA range at 12 V. In deep sleep they drop below 5 mA. The real difference depends on the transmission frequency and how many BLE/485 sensors you have connected.

How much does a 4G GPS tracker cost?
It depends on the model: entry-level 4G units like the FMC920 are the most affordable option; units with CAN bus (FMC150) or for trucks with tachograph (FMC650) go up depending on inputs, battery and connectivity. Check the current price on each model's product page.

Do the trackers have a replaceable battery?
It depends on the format. The hardwired ones (FMB/FMC) are powered by the vehicle and carry an internal backup battery. The asset trackers (TAT100/TAT140/TAT240) run autonomously on a long-life or rechargeable battery, with no mains connection.
What's the difference between the FMC150's native CAN and the CAN-CONTROL adapter?
The FMC150 reads the CAN bus natively (more than 90 parameters from over 1,800 vehicles). CAN-CONTROL is an adapter that, besides reading data, allows remote actions such as start blocking or door control.
Do I need a SIM and software for the tracker to work?
Yes. The unit needs an M2M SIM with data to transmit and a platform to view the information. We offer both as optional extras when you buy the tracker.
